Mark Bright just isn’t busy enough these days as wine director and co-owner of Saison, a partner in Vinyl on Divis, and traveling around the world for his wine investment fund and brokerage. ABC license activity points to a new project named ~BALANCE~, which is going to be his café and wine bar in the former Gluten Free Grocery. Eater mentions his plans include serving breakfast and coffee, lunch, and wine bar-friendly bites into the evening, along with “a selection of top-notch vintages by the glass or bottle, emphasizing both Burgundy wines (Bright’s area of specialty) and small-production domestic offerings” (wine classes are also in the works). Details on the chef and opening date (the target is this summer) will be revealed soon. 234 Townsend St. at 3rd St.

The Annual Midspring Wine Tasting Extravaganza from ~GOLDEN GATE WINE CELLARS~ is coming up this Saturday May 17th. From 5:30pm-8:30pm, you’ll have the chance to try at least 40 different wines, as well as be able to talk to winemakers about their pours. There will be food, as well. Tickets are $45 per person or $80 for a pair. Donworth Hall at St. Stephen’s, 451 Eucalyptus Dr. at Melba, 415-337-4083.

Ghirardelli Square’s ninth annual Uncorked Wine Festival is also coming up on Saturday May 17th from 1pm-6pm. More than 40 wineries will be in attendance, including Alexander Valley Vineyards, Rosenblum Cellars, and Gloria Ferrer. There will also be live music and a food court from Off the Grid. The event is a fundraiser for Save the Bay, and tickets are $55 per person for general admission and $85 for VIP (includes early admission at 12pm). 900 North Point St. at Larkin.
