And once again, life returns to the original Slanted Door location on Valencia, this time as BON VOYAGE!, a second bar from Josh Harris and Morgan Schick of BVHospitality. Let’s let Josh tell you more about it: “”When brainstorming ideas, we kept coming up with the narrative of a guy who lives in a hotel and travels throughout Southeast Asia and Africa in the 1950s, moving his way across the world, collecting art and mementos from his journey. He then ends up in 1970s Palm Springs, where he buys a house to fill with his worldly treasures and throws killer disco cocktail parties and serves Chinese food.” I definitely want to party with this guy.

Cocktails include a Singapore Sling, Bananarac!, and a playful collection of Collinses (from Joan to Bootsy to Phil)—the bar manager is Elliot Clark (a veteran bartender at Trick Dog). There are also natural wines and tropical-leaning beers.

There’s a dim sum menu (served late! Like 2am late!) from executive chef Wilder Marroquin (previously of Betelnut, China Live, Ozumo). Dishes include housemade shui jiao with spicy Szechuan sauce, xiao long bao, salt and pepper prawns, and chow fun noodles.

The globetrotting interior has an eclectic mix of vintage pieces, wallpaper, fun textures, and a disco ball, with architectural design elements contributed by Wylie Price Design (Ramen Shop, The Progress), and the bar was constructed by Roman Hunt restoration. There’s an upstairs mezzanine with its own bar, and room for 50 guests (as one event or divided into smaller groups). You won’t miss the elephants at the entrance.

Open Mon-Fri 2pm-2am (kitchen opens at 5pm) and Sat-Sun 12pm-2am (kitchen opens at 12pm). 584 Valencia St. at 17th St.
