A cool new bar in Oakland’s Uptown, BAR DOGWOOD is now open, according to UrbanDaddy. Diablo Dish mentions the motto is “Cocktails and Cured Meats,” and is a project from Alexeis Filipello, formerly a co-owner of The House of Shields. On the menu: salumi (available by the pound off a hand-cranked slicer, mamma mia), seafood, cheese, and “great cocktails and independent wines and beers.” 1644 Telegraph Ave. at 17th St., Oakland, 510-444-6669.

Another one to watch for on Telegraph (right across the street from the Fox Theater) is coming from the folks behind the Weather Up bar in Brooklyn. Glenn Kaplan and Chris Foott (who are actually Bay Area natives) are opening it, along with a number of NYC consultants (read more about who they are in this Diablo Dish piece here, which includes some other bar news). “Expect an outdoor patio, a floating island bar, and two indoor bocce courts. No hot food, but there will be gourmet bar bites and possibly a raw bar.” Target date is early summer. 1741 Telegraph Ave. at 18th St.
