The newest venture from Jack Knowles, owner of À Côté in Oakland, has finally opened after months of speculation and construction. PRESERVATION HALL WEST AT THE CHAPEL, at 777 Valencia, opened over the weekend for shows to coincide with Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, though construction is not yet complete and they will reopen for their next shows on Wednesday October 17th. A full list of currently booked shows and tickets can be found here. And, hey, this is cool: the shows are all ages, so you can start introducing the kiddies to good music now.

According to Grubstreet, there will eventually be a restaurant and grill, serving light Provençal-style food, though details are scarce and it doesn’t look like they’ll be opening until 2013. No word currently on the bar program, though hopefully it will feature some of the same New Orleans influences as the musical lineup. The venue, in a former mortuary, features grand 40-foot ceilings, and the stage where the former mortuary dais used to be. 777 Valencia St. at 19th St.
