By Dana Eastland. Whether you need to recover from the night before or simply welcome a new year the best way possible, brunch is clearly in order for Friday January 1st. Here are some hot spots to toast to 2016.

For good luck doughnuts (which are seriously a great idea) and a special breakfast burrito with crispy beef ribs, scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, avocado, green chile salsa, and crème fraîche, make your way to ~ABSINTHE BRASSERIE & BAR~. They’re serving brunch from 11am-3pm and take reservations too.

For comforting food of the first order and plenty of good stiff drinks to light up your morning, ~HOG & ROCKS~ is your spot. They’re serving duck hash, chicken and waffles, and eggs Benedict, plus $5 mimosas and $20 carafes (including a free refill). Large groups are welcome, if you’re rolling with a posse.

A nice walk around the Presidio and/or Crissy Field is a great way to start the new year, and so is brunch at SESSIONS. They’ll be serving a “secret” burger with pastrami, a fried egg, and mustard kraut, as well as a thin Dutch pancake with housemade nutella. It’s also good for groups. 1 Letterman Dr. at Lombard, entrance at the Chestnut Gate at Lyon, 415-655-9413.

~PRESIDIO SOCIAL CLUB~ is another Presidio option, and they have mighty tasty sweet options like brown sugar cinnamon rolls, challah French toast, and brioche beignets, plus savory choices like the hangover helper pork belly cheese toast. Brunch is served from 10am-4pm, so you’ve got plenty of time to accept the fact that another year has passed.

Also going in the comfort direction with brunch is PRECITA PARK CAFÉ, where classics like chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and stuffed buttermilk pancakes will be on offer. Bottles of orange juice and prosecco will be available for $20. 500 Precita Ave. at Alabama, 415-647-7702.

RICE PAPER SCISSORS is offering their annual New Year’s brunch, but this time it’s at PizzaHacker in Bernal from 11am-3pm. The menu includes their classic breakfast banh mi and a new addition this year: rice porridge with yellow curry. They’ll be pouring iced coffee, hot coffee, mimosas, and beer too. 3299 Mission St. at 29th St., 415-878-6657.

Downtown, THE KEYSTONE is offering brunch from 10am-2pm on New Year’s Day, with a fried chicken eggs Benedict or a short rib hash with eggs. Bottomless mimosas are just $25, and plenty of cocktails are available at the bar. Plus, they’ll be offering weekend brunch permanently starting Saturday January 2nd. 68 4th St. at Mission, 415-777-1200.

Also downtown and offering a full bar and a comfortable setting is ~BLUESTEM BRASSERIE~, where a brunch burger with hash browns, breakfast sausage, bacon, housemade American cheese, a fried egg, bread and butter pickles, avocado, and spicy ketchup promises to cure whatever ails you. They’ve even got a cocktail called The Hair of the Dog (Scotch, honey, and cream).

If you’re looking for a fancier start to the new year, or have family in town that appreciates the finer things in life, perhaps a visit to TOP OF THE MARK is in order. From 10am-2pm, various stations will serve roasts, omelets, waffles, and more. Of course, live piano music will serenade the hungry brunchers, and the views aren’t too shabby either (heh). Reservations are required; brunch is $109 per adult and $59 per child. 999 California St. at Mason, 415-392-3434.

LUCE is also offering a fancy buffet brunch, with an omelet station and a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for all adults. Brunch is served 11am-2:30pm and costs $85 per adult and $45 per child. 888 Howard St. at 5th St., 415-616-6566.

If a visit to Sausalito sounds like a nice way to spend the day (perhaps a ferry ride is in order?), don’t miss the brunch at COPITA. They’ll be serving chilaquiles divorciados, enfrijoladas, and more, plus margaritas and other beverages from the bar. 739 Bridgeway at Anchor, Sausalito, 415-331-7400.

If you really sleep in and completely miss brunch, never fear. ~DOSA~ (both locations) has you covered, with dinner starting at 5pm. They’ll be serving their usual flavorful cuisine, as well as cocktails.
